Description

Assessing the Collective Economics of Change: An Approach to Achieving Multi-Year & Multi-Stakeholder Engagement for Equitable Systems Change: A system is comprised of winners and losers. Any effort to make the system more equitable is bound to disrupt that balance of power and be met with a certain level of resistance. How, then, can market-based Collective Impact initiatives overcome this barrier and ensure that stakeholders are actively engaged and committed to progress?  In this session, we will take you through our ongoing journey with brands, funders, local leaders, and implementation partners to address the systemic labor and human rights issues in the Mexican sugarcane sector. We will share the story of how data enabled us to develop an integrated set of interventions that support vulnerable sugarcane workers, how piloting interventions allowed us to understand the true costs and value of change, and how understanding the implications of change secured multi-year stakeholder commitments toward a strategy that will ultimately embed the costs of change in the terms of trade.
