The crises of 2020 and the resurgence of energy behind the movement for racial justice forced organizations to simultaneously reckon with multiple cultural and operating principles: How do we work and build community virtually? How are we either a part of the solution or a part of the problem with racial justice? How can we live out our DEI commitments virtually? This session will present the journeys and insights from the Remote DEI Collective, a cross-organization effort led by education leaders who have prioritized DEI within respective remote organizations for years. Given the adaptive nature of the work, the presenters will share key considerations for developing a community of practice to support each organization as well as the broader sector in taking action toward DEI and antiracist commitments virtually.
Learning Objectives: Participants will
- Learn about the key practices and conditions for developing a trusting community of practice and collective effort
- Explore resources and strategies for advancing DEI in remote environments
