Maxwell Schmitz is a 22-year-old bassist based in Harlem, originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A recent graduate of the Berklee College of Music, Maxwell blends jazz, R&B, hip-hop, and soul into a versatile and expressive sound. Inspired by artists such as Miles Davis, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Curtis Mayfield and Roy Hargrove, his playing both honors musical tradition and pushes modern boundaries. The grandson of a professional bassist, Maxwell aims to honor a family legacy on the instrument, honoring his grandfather’s influence while carving out his own voice in today’s scene.
