Description
Even after a decade of progress, what does it take for collective partners to bravely imagine a just world that does not exist and wonder how to turn successes into deeper impact? For the community partners of Cradle Kalamazoo, an initiative of YWCA Kalamazoo, it has never been enough to know that racist systems generate inequities in infant mortality. We were driven to erase disparities for the most vulnerable to improve conditions for all. Our impact is rooted in deep community relationships that supported ongoing interrogation of the mindsets holding current systems in place and the development of a multi-faceted, data-driven model (including the Fetal Infant Mortality Review that became a national model). Partners will share historical insights and tools from recent strategic planning that have led Cradle Kalamazoo to a greater focus on advocacy to unravel the social determinants of health that cause these inequities.
