Judy began her career as a third-grade teacher with the New York City Department of Education in 2003. She quickly fell in love with her students, their families, and the work. After serving the Harlem community for several years, she went on to became the founding principal of an elementary school in East New York, Brooklyn. Most recently, she served as the Managing Director of Principal Preparation for a Texas based charter network where she helped to ensure aspiring principals were equipped with the skills they would need to help undergird their passion for students and learning.
Judy's unwavering commitment to education is rooted in her own lived experience as a child of immigrants and a first generation college student. She strives to ensure that all young people live in communities and attend schools where they can learn and thrive.
As a third year doctoral student in Harvard’s Ed.L.D program, Judy has been immersed in learning more about the growing collective impact field and what it takes to fuel and sustain community transformation efforts. In 2021, she worked with Harvard’s EdRedesign Lab as a Linda G. Hammett Ory Fellow, where she interviewed backbone leaders across the country and helped develop a report on the competencies and mindsets required for backbone leadership. In July 2022, Judy joined the Baton Rouge based MetroMorphosis team to help explore the nature of partnerships that allow collective impact networks to persist and create lasting impact.
Judy believes it will take sustained collaborative effort from all stakeholders to radically transform school and life outcomes for our kids, especially those who continue to be marginalized. She strives to honor the voices and expertise of the communities she serves so that change efforts reflect their vision and aspirations.
