Being able to discuss, identify, and manage power is crucial for any CI initiative that wants to make transformational change. However, too often these conversations don’t happen or only cover the initiative's external work, ignoring crucial internal dynamics. This session will explore power dynamics in CI initiatives based on recent research on the experiences of three different initiatives. We'll talk about 

• six different ways power may manifest in CI initiatives (resources, structures and processes, identity and relationships, framing and communication, resistance, and formal leadership)
• the impact power dynamics have on practitioners 
• what organizational dynamics get carried over into CI initiatives that may stymy sharing power. 

Participants will have the opportunity to reflect on their initiatives, discuss their experiences with other practitioners through breakouts, and share takeaways in an interactive document, walking away with a new awareness of the role power plays in their work.

• Identify how power is presenting in and impacting the work of participants in CI initiatives through six different sources and three different dimensions
• Discuss choices that initiatives can make to manage or shift power
